Job Summary
The Industrial Hygiene Specialist is an on-site role located in Lemont, IL at the CITGO Lemont Refinery. The position is responsible for protecting workers from occupational and environmental hazards through the application of scientific principles and industry standards. The position will require thorough understanding of comprehensive Industrial Hygiene activities and the ability to independently anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards associated with the work environment and refinery processes.
The salary range for this position is $101,000–$124,000, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, or related technical field plus minimum two years of job-related experience required.
- Experience in a refinery or petrochemical industry preferred.
- Ability to interpret sampling data, conduct research, and make recommendations based on the hierarchy of controls.
- Sound understanding of field sampling methods and instrumentation.
- Ability to select appropriate control measures from the information contained in Safety Data Sheets.
- Clear, concise and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong aptitude for computer and various software applications. Proficient with Microsoft office products.
- Able to wear additional personal protective equipment (respiratory protection, fall protection, chemical protective clothing, etc.)
- Able to work from elevated heights.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred but not required.
- Certified Safety Professional
Ability to work extended hours including emergency call outs.

Job Duties
- Develop, maintain, and execute comprehensive health risk assessments aligned with the Corporate IH Exposure Assessment Program:
- Review and update the refinery exposure assessments to ensure health hazards are clearly identified and exposure profiles are well characterized. This includes qualitative and quantitative assessment documentation.
- (goes with item 2) Execute annual sampling plan to include area and personal monitoring requirements.
- Review all laboratory results and maintain data integrity in the IH Database (Cority).
- Communicate monitoring results to employees and the senior management team.

- Build and execute annual sampling plan to include area and personal monitoring requirements based on Exposure Assessment Program:
- Manage and maintain inventory of IH air monitoring equipment to ensure it is properly calibrated, maintained, and repaired.
- Coordinate with refinery personnel to facilitate and drive continuous improvement for the H2S Safety & Personal Monitor Program.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of emergency response air monitoring equipment.

- Manage and maintain the Safety Data Sheet system and chemical approval process:
- Maintain the Safety Data Sheet database.
- Participate in the Chemical/Hazardous Substance Review process for new materials and associated Safety Data Sheets.
- Recommend appropriate safeguards for materials approved for use on-site.
- Conduct hazard assessments to maintain an accurate and up-to-date chemical inventory.

- Provides professional IH support, training and oversight for Industrial Hygiene programs, including but not limited to:
- Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Radiation Safety, Chemical Specific Programs (Lead, Asbestos, Benzene, Hydrogen Sulfide), etc.
- Ensures effective implementation and compliance with IH programs, practices, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provide Industrial Hygiene training for Emergency Response Teams and site personnel responsible for air monitoring during an emergency to ensure full-time and volunteer responders can make timely decisions during an emergency chemical release.

5. General Industrial Hygiene Support:
- Interface with regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, USCG) as needed.
- Provide IH support for the design/installation of new or modified operating equipment/facilities as part of the site MOC process as needed.
- IH support for emergency response activities as needed.
- Support Corporate Legal Department, Human Resources, and Health Services as needed.

6. Maintain applicable training, licenses, certifications, qualifications, etc. to perform key IH duties, including but not limited to:
- Radiation Safety Officer
- Industrial Hygiene related continuing education and training
