Job Summary
An Area Inspector is responsible for evaluating the mechanical integrity and reliability of all refinery fixed equipment through effective inspection programs. Inspectors are responsible for the upkeep of records and analysis of inspection histories and corrosion data to determine equipment run length, maintenance repairs needed, turnaround scope development, and inspection or replacement intervals for fixed equipment and safety valves.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical diploma from Accredited NDT Technical School plus four (4) years inspection experience or six (6) years inspection experience
- In lieu of diploma, mechanical/metallurgical knowledge of refinery fixed equipment and piping systems
- Working knowledge of appropriate fixed equipment and piping codes and standards such as API-510, API-570, National Board Inspection Code, ASME Section VIII Div.1, and ASME B31.3 (Piping Code)
- Experience as T/A inspector
- Certification in one of the following: API-570, API-510, API-653, NBIC, preferred
- Working knowledge of PCMS inspection software, preferred
- API-571 or ASNT Level III Certification, a plus
- Level II Certifications in PT, MT, UT-thk, RT-film interpretation, a plus
- Strong PC skills, required
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Job Duties
- Performs on stream and turnaround inspection utilizing routine NDE techniques, monitors repairs, and tracks completion of recommendations on refinery fixed equipment. Coordinates and directs inspection activities during turnarounds and equipment outages. Supervises contract inspector activities
- Analyses corrosion program data, operating parameters, and inspection equipment history to determine remaining life, sets inspection intervals, determines the need of and timing of repairs or replacements, evaluates the alternatives, recommends metallurgy upgrades as required for fixed equipment and safety valves
- Prepares inspection reports, maintains equipment files and computerized inspection records system, tracks safety valve testing, and writes recommendations for fixed equipment and safety valves. Determines the next inspection and testing date for all fixed equipment
- Submits the recommended repairs and required maintenance for 80% of the annual turnaround and routine scope development for fixed equipment and safety valves. Determines what needs to be repaired and when based on analysis of problems and calculations of remaining life
- Analyzes problems and develops reliability plan for fixed equipment in assigned units. Data gathering for life cycle cost analysis and engineering work requests. Reviews the "bad actor" equipment and helps determine unit run limiters that need to be addressed
- Reviews welding/repair procedures, design specifications, drawings, inspection procedures and practices to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and specifications

- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC)
