Job Summary
This position is responsible for supervising accounting and finance functions related to Refining Accounting’s industrial products and petrochemical purchases and sales for the Lake Charles, Corpus Christi, and Lemont Refineries as well as the Supply and Trading organization. This position will monitor and oversee efforts to reconcile and analyze inventory for in-transit, 3rd party storage and refinery plants. The supervisor will ensure all transactions are processed timely and correctly in the financial statements. Provide financial analysis and support for Industrial Products Supply and Petrochemicals areas. Also, duties may include supporting the above activities through reference to authoritative accounting literature and identifying impact of accounting transactions on reported cash flow and existing or contemplated debt covenants. In addition, the job identifies and develops financial processes within the Controller’s organization. Identifies where existing accounting practice are not in agreement with GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) and proposes changes to those practices to ensure compliance with GAAP. This position requires ensuring all transactions are processed timely and correctly in the financial statements. The supervisor will provide financial analysis and support for Industrial Products Supply and Petrochemicals areas and will use some knowledge of GAAP, CITGO operations and CITGO financial processes as they relate to both corporate and business unit earnings to act as an analytical resource within the Controller’s organization (and within the business units when necessary). Use creative thinking skills for problems solving and provide mentorship and review to analysts work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- A minimum of 8 years of job related experience
Required:
- Versatile and proactive, with an ability to research issues
- Independently, formulate questions and identify propose solutions
- Perform broad financial analysis of results of operations.
- Strong Understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Prioritize duties when given multiple projects with limited supervision
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Extensive computer skills: Intermediate Excel – creation/use of Lookups and Pivot tables
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- At least 2 years experience with SAP
- Experience with using Right Angle.
- Work with limited supervision.
Job Duties
1. Supervise and assist the day-to-day accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate accounting for all Industrial Products and Petrochemicals transactions including:
- Purchases, sales, exchanges, processing agreement activity, and inventory control.
- Cash forecasting of billing and payment activity provided daily with a rolling 60-day window.
- Analyze general ledger accounts, accrual balances, sales and purchase order reports, open nominations, inventory balances and reconciliations, freight and inter-company transactions to ensure a complete and accurate accounting of purchases and sales activity.
- Establish guidelines and internal controls designed to ensure an accurate and timely accounting for transactions, verify that such guidelines and internal controls are being followed and are functioning as intended. This also includes managing accounting issues that arise, with external and internal customers and suppliers.
2. Supervise the preparation and accounting of made to proper financial reporting for the period for the following. This includes volumetric postings to RightAngle as well as general/specific ledger journal entries in SAP.
- Sales and purchases per Inventory Reconciliation procedures
- Petcoke and Butane LIFO costing and balancing
- Accruals for a variety of transactions, e.g., entries for fuel gas usage (for tax), inter-company sales commissions, and most significantly, closing accruals
- Profit center transfers and reclasses, analyzing SAP reports for accuracy of balances and transactions, examination of underlying documents, and an awareness and understanding of how operational events, etc. will impact financial accounting and reporting.
