Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, highly organized, and self-motivated Senior Accounting Analyst to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be versatile and proactive, with an ability to independently research issues, formulate questions and identify/propose solutions. This role will involve overseeing financial reporting, providing strategic insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support decision-making processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree. CPA or advanced certification (e.g., CFA, CMA) is preferred. 2+ years of experience; Supervisory experience a plus.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, GAAP, and financial analysis methodologies.
  • Proficiency in financial software applications (e.g., SAP, RightAngle) is a plus. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and trends.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration, managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and driving results in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with accounting for oil/refined products physical/derivative trading a plus.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and ERP system implementations is a plus.

Job Duties

Responsibilities:

  1. Record Hydrocarbon purchases and sales are timely and accurately forecasted and recorded. Ensure timely billings to customers. Resolve any vendor/customer disputes timely.
  2. Participate and lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”), and timely reporting. This includes the monthly valuation of the company’s consolidated inventory under LIFO method of accounting.
  3. Lead the preparation of monthly financial reports, including consolidated inventory reporting, balance sheet account reconciliations/flux analysis and book to physical volume inventory reconciliations.
  4. Lead the financial analysis and reporting processes, including the preparation of complex financial statements and reports.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams of traders, schedulers and other accounting and finance functions (e.g., Risk, FP&A) to analyze business performance and drive process improvements.
  6. Conduct variance analysis and identify trends and issues to inform management decisions.
  7. Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting analysts, fostering their personal and professional development and growth.
  8. Coordinate with external auditors and internal stakeholders to facilitate audits and ensure adherence to accounting standards.
  9. Stay updated with accounting regulations, industry trends, and best practices to ensure compliance and optimize financial processes.
  10. Participate in special projects, system implementations, and process enhancements as needed.
