Job Summary
The Business Development Strategy Manager (“BDM”) is responsible for identifying, developing, and closing profitable new business within a defined geographic area while driving strategic growth of the CITGO brand. This role combines consultative selling, financial evaluation, and market strategy to expand Brand Licensing opportunities with Marketers & Retailers, including the identification of Marketers and Retailers to become branded fuel operators.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the BDM is a self-directed and independent thinker who influences stakeholders and may lead cross-functional initiatives - both internal and external—without direct reporting authority.
The role requires strong executive presence and the ability to engage and influence senior leaders while evaluating long-term investments based on return on investment and sustained profitability.
This is a highly consultative selling environment, where the BDM must clearly articulate the long-term value of aligning with CITGO and influence customers to make significant strategic commitments beyond short-term pricing considerations.
Minimum Qualifications
- • Proven ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
• Strong experience in financial evaluation and investment decision-making (ROI, profitability, risk assessment)
• Demonstrated success engaging and influencing senior executives and decision-makers.
• Highly self-directed, with the ability to prioritize and execute independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong independent thinker with advanced problem-solving and analytical capabilities
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a results-driven approach to business development
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to build trust and long-term relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM platforms
• Strong organizational and planning skills - Minimum years of job-related experience required: A Bachelor's Degree and 10 years
Job Duties
1. Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities, including brand licensing, branded marketers, and retailer opportunities to meet aggressive volume and gross profit targets. Ensure that new business is profitable and represents the CITGO band appropriately in the expansion markets.
2. Develop, execute, and manage marketing campaigns in targeted growth areas that effectively unlock and expand CITGO’s brand presence within the assigned territory. Work closely with broader Brand Equity / Brand Programs team to ensure that marketing message and collateral materials are within brand standards.
3. Influence and lead cross-functional teams, including sales, operations, finance, and support functions, without direct reporting authority. Partner with Regional CITGO sales management to pursue complex Regional and National Accounts opportunities. Build alignment across stakeholders to ensure successful execution of growth initiatives.
4. Gain the personal trust and professional confidence of all CITGO stakeholders, employees, customers, creditors, and suppliers, for support to close business as required.
5. Facilitate accurate, timely & effective communication between CITGO and our customers. Prioritize and manage time to meet the established objectives, including various administrative and communication responsibilities. Exhibit excellent oral & written skills combined with the required computer skills needed to communicate effectively.
