Job Summary
Assists the Lead Derivatives Trader in developing short- and medium-term analysis of market fundamentals (Supply & Demand models) to help create a point of view of the market.
Identify risks and opportunities that are key drivers to CITGO profitability.
Understand optionality around physical trading/pricing around the refinery system.
Assists in the execution of the trading strategy under the supervision of the Lead Derivatives Trader.
Entry of trades into the trading system and monitoring of position reports and PnL reports.
Develop risk taking expertise by proposing trading strategies based on fundamentals of the market.
Requires strong analytical reasoning, advanced excel skills and is comfortable working with large data sets and using them to gain insights into trends and potential opportunities in the market.
Ability to solve problems using advanced analytical methods utilizing python.
Develops an understanding of commercial processes and internal and external contacts along the supply chain and industry for a specific geographic area of strategic importance. Acts as floor trader to ensure inter and intra trading day market movements are properly evaluated, and tactics revised and executed according to opportunities and constraints present in the CITGO system and approved by the Commercial Management. Initiates and concludes less complex trades and manages price risks with a narrow range.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a logical, economic thinker with the ability to apply analytical tools and techniques to transform data into actionable points-of-view.
- Ability to balance workload priorities from multiple sources required.
- Exposure to physical and financial trading concepts, along with both pipeline and intermodal transportation, contract pricing, arbitrage opportunities, and price spreads.
- Trading experience preferred, but not required.
- Minimum years of job-related experience required: A Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience or a Master’s degree and 0 years of experience. If no degree, 6 years of experience in lieu of degree
Job Duties
1. Identify and analyze market supply/demand factors and relationships that are key to CITGO's profitability. Formulate actionable points-of-view to capture incremental market value based on this analysis, and executes trading strategies within delegated authority limits. This includes factors and relationships not only impacting pricing of CITGO's crude oil and end products, but also those related to refining, transportation and other segments of the supply chain.
2. Develop dashboards and monitor data to uncover trading opportunities in the market. Identify and back test data sets to deliver advanced analytics models for trading support.
3. Execute the financial derivatives positions required to facilitate hedges within the Supply group and across CITGO's total energy price risks, consistent with corporate operating philosophy and objectives.
4. Ensure trades are accurately reported on risk reports and appropriately reflecting positions. Develop and manage reliable knowledge capture systems related to the key market risks identified. This includes understanding current system availability and data sources, defining system and data management needs for the future, and working with the Mid-Office and Supply groups to capture the data and knowledge required to analyze key market components and relationships.
5. Partner with other segments of the Supply and Marketing group to create analytical and decision-making resources and communicate
